The Migrant Education Program at CVUSD provides Migrant After School services at nine sites: Saul Martinez, Mecca, Las Palmitas, Oasis, Valle Del Sol, Valley View, Palm View, Sea View, and Coral Mountain. The program runs three days a week, with 90 minutes of instruction each day. Students engage in fun cultural awareness units, as well as target English language arts and math instruction.
Research has shown that kids learn best when schools and families partner together around a common goal of educating their children. The focus of the Migrant Family Math Night is to support these partnerships by providing a night where kids and parents can engage in fun, creative, and unique, standards-based activities.
Allowing families to communicate about math in a hands-on environment allows for deep understanding of important concepts and contributes to more powerful learning experiences. The objective of hosting a Family Math Night for Migrant families is to promote family involvement with math. As a result, families who participate in the event will have a greater understanding of the role they should have as active participants in the education of their children.
