ATTENDANCE OPTIONS/PERMITS – EC 35160.5 (B), 48200, 46600, 48980 (G) Compulsory Education: Compulsory Education law states that students must enroll in school in the school district in which the residence of either the parent or legal guardian is located. If a parent is seeking a change in a public district outside of the resident district, then an interdistrict permit is required. Exceptions are for charter school, home school or other private school enrollments, and other online charter school options.

2024-2025 & 2025-2026 Transfers / Traslados

Coachella Valley Unified School District Office of Student Support Services is actively receiving transfer requests for the 2024-2025 school year. The transfer window for the 2025-2026 school is currently open and requests may be submitted at this time. If you live within or outside of the boundaries of Coachella Valley Unified School District, you must request a transfer online for your student. Transfer window will be available at all times. Although, transfers submitted will only be reviewed at set dates throughout the year.

Transfer requests are reviewed on a regular basis. You will be notified of the final decision within 30 calendar days from the date of the request.
Transfer requests for the upcoming school year will be notified of the final decision as soon as possible, but no later than the 14th calendar day after the commencement of the instructional school year for which the inter-district transfer is sought.

Transferring from one district to another

An Inter-District Attendance permit is valid only during the school year for which it is issued, while conditions stated are maintained, and as long as the student's attendance, citizenship and scholarship are satisfactory to the district of attendance. A permit may be revoked for cause at any time. False or misleading information may be cause for denial or revocation. If the transfer request is denied, you have the right to appeal this decision to the Riverside County Office of Education Board of Directors within 30 calendar days following the date of the final denial. You must visit their website to submit an appeal and follow the directions outlined on this web-page. Decisions made by the Riverside County Board of Education will be final.

Transferring from one school site to another

Intra-District transfer requests are approved according to space availability at each school site.

Enrollment Caps are established annually by the Governing Board of the Coachella Valley Unified School District. Students residing within the attendance area shall have first priority for enrollment. If an intra-district transfer is approved, and student wishes to return to their school of residence they must reapply without priority. The approved applicant does not have to reapply unless they wish to transfer to a different school or return back to their school of residence.

Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Revocation or Rescission of Permits
Students attending on transfers must maintain satisfactory attendance, citizenship and scholarship within the CVUSD or the school of attendance. Approval of transfers is subject to availability in the district and may not align with the site requested.

A permit may be revoked for cause at any time.

False or misleading information may cause the denial or revocation of a permit.

Inter district Transfer Procedures

Complete the online Request for Interdistrict Attendance Permit (see link below). Please make sure to fill out the application according to your district of residence (example) if your child currently attending CVUSD but reside in DSUSD or PSUSD boundaries you must click on your district of residence and then click on the current district your child is attending and then the district you would like to attend. Filling out incorrectly may result in a delay in your request.
Please provide any additional support documents as needed (example Child Care Verification, School District Employment Verification).
Parent/Guardians will be notified by email once the request is submitted and reviewed.
Incomplete applications will result in denial of your request and will further delay the process.
Transportation is not provided and is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Pre-Enrollment for 2025-2026 opens in mid-July! After you finish and submit your application, you will receive an Enrollment Confirmation. Please print this document.
Access to a computer and printer is also provided at the school.

STEP 2
Contact your student's school office and confirm your student's pre-enrollment.

Bring the signed Enrollment Confirmation document, immunization records, birth verification and proof of residency to the school, IEP or 504 Plan, restraining order or any court documents, and identification.
You will receive your Parent Portal account by email and any additional information will be provided by your school

Immunization Law

California law requires all students attending public or private school be vaccinated against certain infectious diseases to keep themselves and their classmates safe. The school must have a copy of each student's vaccination record on file. Which vaccines are required varies by the student's age and grade; information can be found below. The best place to get vaccinated is at your doctor's office, but for people without a doctor or insurance, free clinics are offered through out the Coachella Valley Unified School District. State law says, "No Shots, No Records, No School!"

On September 29, 2010, AB 354, a new law changing California immunization requirements for students entering 7th-12th grades in public and private schools was passed. The law requires:

All students entering into 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (called “Tdap”) before starting school.
All students entering into 7th grade only will need proof of a Tdap shot to start school.
