PLATA is a group composed of parent volunteers who want to educate and motivate the CVUSD parent community through parent involvement activities and workshops. Each site is encouraged to have parent representation. PLATA parents want to grow as active leaders by taking an active role as parent leaders at their school site and district parent committees.
How can parents join PLATA?
Parents can be recommended by school principals, other parent leaders, or PLATA parents. Prospective PLATA parents will then complete the CVUSD PLATA leadership academy to obtain the needed skills and tools to lead parents and school activities.
What do PLATA parents do?
They learn about parenting curriculum to engage and train other district parents. The curriculum is a series of workshops that are presented to other parents.
PLATA parents can present workshops at different school sites. However, it is highly suggested that they primarily present at the school that they represent.
PLATA parents receive ongoing training throughout the year and attend monthly meetings to build teamwork and discuss their experience as presenters.
PLATA parents are also invited to conferences or other training to improve and enhance their leadership on parental engagement.
