College and Career Readiness at Elementary
College and Career Readiness starts in elementary school! Students need exposure to what it means to be college and career ready early on in their education! Our goal is for students to be exposed to the many career options that currently exist and which continue to develop in our ever-changing global communities, all while equipping them with the necessary skills to be successful.
We are committed to embedding opportunities in our daily instructional practices and programs for our students to develop skills associated with self-management, communication, collaboration, goal setting, problem solving, and critical thinking. All these skills are essential for shaping our students for their current and future success!

STEAM in the Classroom
CVUSD is implementing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) labs at seven of our elementary schools! The STEAM labs allow our students to connect their work to real life problems facing their communities. Participating in STEAM lab lessons allows our students to see how skills learned in the classroom can lead to careers in the future, all while providing them with opportunities to discover new interests and passions.
AVID Elementary
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college & career readiness and success in a global society.
All our elementary school sites integrate best practices connected to AVID! Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and aligns with set goals to accelerate and enhance the work that is already happening in our classrooms!
AVID supports each school reach their site-based identified goals through best practices associated with Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR). WICOR is a collection of teaching and learning strategies to guide students in comprehending concepts and articulating ideas at increasingly complex levels.
A big focus at the elementary level is to provide our students with the organizational tools they need to be successful students now and into their future. Organization is key to success!
